Complexity, Consideration and Rocks

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 9:06 am

I’ve been neglecting to blog for some time now due to a set of complexities in my life which have dominated most of my mental focus of late. The two largest of these are school and housing, both of which are equally important and elusive.

I really wish the school thing would go away as this appears to be my biggest obstacle with respect to getting a life, and eventually controlling everyone else’s. A friend of mine whose opinion I value highly suggested that these issues are perhaps a symptom  of a greater problem, specifically my procrastination habits, which I have been making efforts to eliminate where possible.

I recently put an ad in The Press looking for boarding accommodation and received one response. Yesterday I went to view the accommodations offered by the aforementioned responder.

Upon arrival I was immediately faced with an accessibility issue in the form of an extremely steep ramp. I was able to summit the ramp with some assistance, at which point I was met by the next obstacle, an incarnation of the apparently omnipotent step.

After dismounting from my trusty hydraulic steed I summated the step on all fours and proceeded to explore the remainder of the house in this mode while my OT made measurements to determine which doorways and hallways my chair would fit through.

The house has a nice entranceway with wooden flooring and skylights which provide a lot of natural light.

The house consists of three bedrooms, a lounge and a kitchen. The entrance / kitchen area are generous and have wooden flooring and skylights provide natural light.

The bedrooms present no particularities to justify mentioning except perhaps that they contain oil heaters which will be an asset in the colder months which rapidly approach.

The lounge is of an average size and contains a lounge suite which may be made of leather, or one of the many other materials designed to simulate it for those denied the genuine article due to financial constraints or moral whining.

The bathroom is of an average size and houses an incredibly small shower and a spa bath which I will make no use of in order to satisfy my desire to avoid performing transfers which are more typically employed by those in  the gymnastic arts.

I will not expend this house as a potential future dwelling, however I feel it would be wise to continue to investigate other options at this point in time.

My writing is clearly not of it’s usual standard, I prey it returns thereto with time and more frequent exercise.

Landmines: Back is Forward.

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 12:47 am

As some of you will know I entered university this year and I took an academic communications course last semester. My exam went about  as successful as my vaccination, but I still passed with a C+. This semester I am taking math, which is hard but vital to my plot to take over the world by harnessing the power of computers. Despite the fact I have a good mind for computers and technology in general, such prowess can not be afforded to my skill with numbers.

Watching me work with numbers is like watching a gymnast flip and twirl through a field of landmines with ravenous dogs at either end, except that I am a fat girl in a creme leotard  with self-esteem issues and absolutely no gymnastic training to speak of. Put more concisely, I am the dogs dinner.

Some of you might be beginning to think that my fat alter-ego has few prospects save as a chew toy for the aforementioned beasts. You are all entitled to hold whatever opinion makes you sleep at night, but this is my blog so I am free to tell you that you are in fact wrong, and a moron. My fat friend and I intend to conquer this minefield by advancing to the rear and returning as a sculpted, well trained aerodynamic machine for which landmines and mutts present no boundary.

I am not yet sure of where a  rear advancement may be made, but I intend to go somewhere and fill the gaps in my math knowledge which prevent me doing numerical back-flips but I shall return, when I can successfully back-flip and all those who doubt or  oppose me shall rue that day, some of them are even ruing it now as a preemptive measure.

Bad Choices

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 12:58 am

I made the choice to stay home today, I’m regretting that choice and listening to Bryan Ferry as I do.

Being home is kind of boring, and yet, when I’m lying in bed, warm, it seams like a much better option then going to sit in the same room for six hours removing a few drops from the endless stream of word documents which have yet to be typed.

Our sky, which had, for some reason been intermittent over the last few days is now fixed, and we have a new, ugly looking, though more completely functional remote – wahoo!

I got the report from ACC re. the purchase of my new box, the box recommended by the assessor was the Toshiba A130 which is a reasonable box in terms of hardware, but it is let down terribly by the choice of Vista Home Basic as the operating system.

The Dell Inspiron 1501 I wanted was cheaper, and far better hardware than the recommended box but due to purchase process issues outside of my or any of my contacts control, can not be purchased at all which is very unfortunate.

The other boxen considered were the Toshiba A200 the HP RZ27690PA and the Compaq Presario F572AU, I’m not aware of the specs of any of these boxen.

I’m OK with the hardware on the Toshiba A120 the OS would defiantly need some upgrading though.

Revolt Against The Edible Imposter

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 10:47 am

Dear Reader

An imposter is among us, an imposter who is so insidious, so evil, that I, the greatest and best ultimate future leader of the entire universe must bring it to your attention before it causes serious harm.

The imposter I speak of, it will not steal your credit card, nor your identity, nor your family, this most horrible of things would not settle for the targets of any average garden variety imposter, this creature aims to invade your senses, it will render upon your taste buds the most horrid of horrid tastes.

It preys on the innocent sausage loving public, hiding on supermarket shelves incognito, waiting for an ill-informed consumer to pick it up, pay for it and prepare it to be eaten; the second you rest it upon your tongue, the sausage facade shall melt leaving you, the poor consumer to writhe in the full horror and gore of gastronomic genocide.

My friends, this sausage is not a sausage, it travels the universe under many an alias, including but not limited to:

  • Little Boy
  • Frankfurter

This sausage imposter must be stopped, it’s inards bring shame to the fine family of meat products we know as a sausage, I implore the reader, do not buy these horid beasts.

I thank you for your support in this matter

Regards

Smurf

Amazon is Down

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 6:43 pm

This morning I woke up early and couldn’t get the song from the persil ad out of my head, i evemtually found out what it was called and who wrote the version used on the ad (god bless Google and the blogisphere), armed with this infomation I used G1 and G2 to search for the song, which was found on G2 but with too few sources to download.

Being the resourceful type that I am, I set outn in search og alternate sources for the file, one of the more trustworthy of these is amazon, however when I eventually got the the site I was greeted with

We’re sorry!

An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we’re already working on the problem and expect to resolve it shortly.

If you were trying to make a purchase, please check Your Account to confirm that the order was placed.

We apologize for the inconvenience

This, I assumed was a simple routing failure, or at the very least a failure to load balance my request properly, however, after closer inspection it would  appear the entire amazon domain is down

New Coins

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 5:28 am

For those of you who aren’t aware, new coins came in today, they are smaller and therefore lighter than the previous generation and should be more easily transportrd, interestingly enough, the introuction of the new coinage brings an end to New Zealand’s record of being the country with the heaviest coins in the world.

Where are we supposed to use static classes?

I have been coding a bit recenly and coding for me means running assemblies through FxCop to be bitched at abput how my class does not yet comply with the CLS despite the fact it is marked compliant.

On one of my many adventures through the CLS documentation i found this “interesting” little phrase relatong to usage of static classes.

“Static classes should not be used as a misculaneous dumping ground”, why? and furthermore, why is System.Environment a good example of a static class?

Does FIFA have a brand bias

Filed under: Uncategorized — crippledsmurf @ 8:13 pm

I, like millions of others wordwide was watching the FIFA word cup finals this morning (only because TVNZ baught it upon themselves to completly sacrafice all informational programs before mid-day to cover it),because I’m not a sporting man I was not teribly interested in the game, however my eyebrow raised a shade as i heard this come out of the comontators mouth.

“The mind of a defender has to be like a Pentium processor.”

These quwstions come to mind.

  1. Do all defenders run between 20 and 60 degrees?,
  2. Do defenders support HT or MMX
  3. Do they support L2 or L3 cache and if so how much?
  4. Do defenders have issues with division?
  5. Do defenders have a kill command in their instruction set?
  6. Do defenders run in real or protected mode?
  7. Are defenders x86 or x64?
  8. Do they have a custom OEM logo?
  9. Do they support DRM?
  10. Do they have intergrated wireless support?
  11. Are defenders dual-core?
